Editorial Guidelines

Updated 1 December 2025

These guidelines explain how we create, review, and maintain our content so it remains accurate, transparent, and genuinely helpful for anyone considering a TEFL course or preparing to teach English.

Our Mission

Our mission is to help you launch your TEFL career and experience the life-changing rewards of teaching English. We aim to help people choose the right course for their needs, understand their options, and feel confident about taking the next step.

Our guidance is grounded in first-hand classroom and teacher-training experience. These guidelines set out how we create, review, and update our content so you can trust what you read.

1. Our Content Creation Process

  • All content is written or reviewed by qualified ELT professionals. Most articles and guidance are reviewed by Keith Taylor, DELTA-qualified with over 20 years’ experience teaching and training in multiple countries.
  • We prioritise first-hand insights and practical, experience-based advice over generic or recycled content.
  • Where facts and figures are included – such as visa rules, course information, or job-market trends – we check reputable sources and verify details with our partner centres.

2. Accuracy and Updates

  • We fact-check information before publication to ensure accuracy and clarity.
  • Course pages and country information are reviewed regularly, or sooner if a partner centre updates their details or if visa rules or hiring conditions change.
  • Where helpful, we include a “Last reviewed” note at the bottom of the page.

3. Transparency and Integrity

  • School of TEFL works with a small number of trusted partner centres. When a course is delivered by a partner, we state this clearly.
  • We receive a partner fee for enrolments made through School of TEFL. This does not affect the course price or the training you receive.
  • All recommendations and opinions are based on professional judgement, not payments.
  • We do not accept payment in exchange for positive reviews or favourable editorial coverage.

4. Standards for Partner Courses

We only work with training centres that meet our standards for quality and professionalism. Before partnering with a centre, we check:

  • Trainer qualifications: Courses must be delivered by experienced, appropriately qualified trainers.
  • Teaching practice: Programmes should provide meaningful opportunities to teach real learners with trainer feedback.
  • Job support: Centres must offer practical, realistic guidance for finding work after the course.
  • Transparency: Course descriptions, requirements, and promises must be accurate and not misleading.
  • Professionalism: Centres must communicate clearly, respond to enquiries promptly, and maintain high training standards.

5. Visa and Job-Market Guidance

  • Visa rules and hiring practices vary widely by country and nationality, and they can change without notice. We aim to provide clear, responsible guidance based on what is typical or commonly reported, without guaranteeing outcomes.
  • Where possible, we link to or reference official sources.
  • We distinguish clearly between what is required, what is recommended, and what is simply common practice.

6. Use of AI Tools

We occasionally use AI-assisted tools to support drafting or editing. All content is reviewed, checked for accuracy, and approved by an experienced human before publication. We do not publish unreviewed AI-generated content.

7. Feedback and Corrections

  • We welcome feedback about our content and any suggestions for improvement.
  • If you spot something that may be inaccurate or out of date, please contact us at hello@schooloftefl.org.
  • We review correction requests promptly and update content where needed.

8. Our Commitment

Our aim is to ensure that School of TEFL remains reliable, helpful, and grounded in real classroom and training experience. We are committed to:

  • Qualified authors and reviewers: Content is written or overseen by experienced teacher trainers.
  • Responsible guidance: We provide realistic, practical advice rather than hype or inflated claims.
  • Regular reviews: Key pages are re-checked regularly to ensure accuracy.
  • Clear disclosures: We are open about our partnerships and how they work.
  • Corrections policy: We address confirmed issues promptly.

9. Scope

These guidelines apply to all content on School of TEFL, including course pages, destination guides, blog articles, and email resources. Information provided by partner centres is reviewed by us before publication, and is checked again during our regular review cycles.
