Theory, Practice, and Real Experience
Our 150 hour Online TEFL course covers essential teaching theories and methodology and gives you hands-on practice teaching live English students for 5 hours. The course includes 10 hours of personalised tutoring and coaching via Zoom from your trainer.
You will develop a solid understanding of effective ESL teaching principles with support from your trainer, who will provide detailed written and verbal feedback through our online portal, email, and Zoom. During the practical teaching module, your trainer will observe your lessons and offer coaching to help you improve.

You’ll understand the difference between language learning and language acquisition, explore the different learning styles your students may have, and learn about deductive and inductive teaching methodologies.
Critical ESL Techniques
You’ll learn essential techniques like how to elicit language and check understanding, how to correct errors, and how to build rapport with your students.
Classroom Management
To create an effective learning environment you’ll need to manage and organise your classroom well. In this module, you’ll learn essential techniques like giving clear instructions, using the board effectively, and maximizing student speaking time.
Lesson Planning
Effective lessons begin with an effective plan that includes clear objectives, structured stages and solid teaching strategies. You’ll learn what makes a strong lesson plan, how to structure and teach each stage, set clear objectives, and incorporate variety and flexibility.
English Grammar
Grammar is just one part of a language, but it’s an important one that learners expect their teacher to be familiar with. We’ll introduce you to the concepts you need to know, and if you like you can explore grammar in more depth with our add-on Grammar course (free when you enrol).
Teaching Grammar and Vocabulary
You’ll learn how to model grammatical structures and present them in context to effectively show how they are used. You’ll explore some key characteristics of vocabulary, the roles words play in a sentence, and techniques for teaching vocabulary in memorable, relatable contexts.
Teaching Phonology
You’ll explore the fundamentals of English pronunciation, covering elements like stress, rhythm, pitch, and intonation. Plus, you’ll learn some practical ways of teaching pronunciation.
Teaching Speaking & Writing
You’ll learn how to use speaking and writing activities to reinforce learning and practise real-life scenarios. You’ll learn how to create effective activities, the difference between accuracy-focused and fluency-focused tasks, and how to integrate speaking and writing activities into your lessons.
Teaching Listening & Reading

This is a university-level course that requires dedication and hard work, as well as the self-discipline required for guided self study. Your trainer will be on hand to support you throughout the course – we include 10 hours of Zoom coaching with your trainer. With your commitment, you’ll emerge from the course well-prepared and highly motivated to start your teaching journey.
Will I teach actual students on the course?
Yes, you’ll teach real ESL students online by Zoom for a total of 5 hours, with observation and feedback from your trainer.
How will I be assessed?
You’ll complete a variety of written tasks designed to help you reflect on key teaching theories and methodologies. These include a detailed Language Analysis assignment and a critique of a foreign language lesson. You’ll also be asked to reflect on classroom observations of experienced teachers. Finally, you’ll prepare detailed lesson plans and be assessed on your 5 hours of practical teaching.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for the course?
You don’t need to prepare in any way. However, we would recommend taking our add-on Grammar Course (free when you enrol). You’ll learn grammar on the course itself, but this will give you a headstart.

Can I take the course if I'm a non-native speaker?
Yes! As long as you are proficient in English speaking and writing, you can take the course.
Please bear in mind that, to secure a teaching job after the course, you may be required to demonstrate proof of your English proficiency, for example with an official TOEFL, IELTS or Cambridge Proficiency score. While “native speaker bias” unfortunately still exists, the barriers are coming down all the time. So if you can demonstrate a native or near-native level of English proficiency, many countries and online platforms offer teaching opportunities for non-native speakers.

Can I take the course if I don't have a degree?
Yes – you don’t need a degree to take our course.
