Terms of use

Updated 25 August 2026

These terms apply to your use of the School of TEFL website.

For our enrolment terms, please see our Enrolment Agreement.

Who we are

School of TEFL is a trading name of Eslbase, a partnership based in the United Kingdom. The same partnership also runs Eslbase.com, a reference site for people considering teaching English abroad. Where these terms say “we”, “our” or “us”, they mean that partnership. “You” means anyone using this website, accessible at https://www.schooloftefl.org.

You can reach us at hello@schooloftefl.org or write to us at 69 Hillcrest Road, Portishead, Bristol, BS20 8HN, United Kingdom. That is also the address for serving any legal document relating to the business. The names of the partners are available on request.

The Eslbase connection matters in the section on courses and employment below.

Using this website

By using School of TEFL you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please stop using the site. You must not use School of TEFL for any unlawful purpose.

What School of TEFL is, and what it is not

School of TEFL publishes guidance for people deciding where and how to train and teach, and provides TEFL courses. Some courses are taught in person by partner centres in the countries where they run. Others, including our online courses, are provided by us directly.

We are not immigration advisers, lawyers, accountants or financial advisers. Nothing on School of TEFL is immigration, legal, tax or financial advice, and reading the site or corresponding with us does not create an adviser and client relationship.

Whether you can obtain a visa, work legally or expect a particular salary depends on your nationality, your qualifications, your circumstances and the rules in force at the time. Only you can confirm those things for your own situation. We publish this material so that you can make a better informed decision. We cannot make the decision for you, and we cannot promise that any job, visa or placement will follow.

How current our information is

We take care over accuracy and follow the sourcing and correction practices set out in our Editorial Guidelines. Where a page carries a date, that date shows when it was last reviewed.

Salaries, living costs, rents, tax rates and exchange rates are indicative estimates drawn from published sources at a point in time. They are not offers, guarantees or forecasts, and actual amounts vary by location, employer, timing and individual circumstances. Currency movements and inflation can make them out of date quickly.

Visa, work permit and immigration rules change without notice, and are applied differently depending on your nationality, the consulate you deal with, your employer and your circumstances. Always confirm the current position with official government sources, and with your employer, before committing money or travel.

Where content describes laws, regulations, visa categories or official procedures, it sets out our general understanding of those rules, not their application to your circumstances. Where we find a material error we correct it, and where the correction is significant we say that we have made it.

Courses and enrolment

When you book a course with us, our obligations to you are set out in our Enrolment Agreement. Nothing in these terms limits or affects that agreement. Further detail on the limits of the information we publish is set out in our Disclaimer.

In-person courses are taught by partner centres, which are independent businesses operating in their own countries under local law. We select and work with those centres, and the Enrolment Agreement sets out what we are responsible for.

Online courses are provided by us directly. What is included, how long your access lasts, and how and when you can cancel are set out at the point of sale and in the Enrolment Agreement.

Where you buy an online course from us at a distance as a consumer, you have 14 days to cancel under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. If you ask us to start during that period, you keep the right to cancel within those 14 days, but we may charge you a proportionate amount for the tuition and support already provided. The right to cancel ends once the course has been fully delivered, and then only where you asked us to start and acknowledged that you would lose the right.

Where we supply downloadable or streamed material separately from a course, and you ask for access straight away, the right to cancel ends when supply begins, provided you have acknowledged that. We will tell you which of these applies at the point of sale.

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires digital content we supply to be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. Nothing in these terms affects those rights.

Courses and employment

Our courses are training. Buying one does not entitle you to a job, to an introduction to an employer, or to preference with any school. Where a course includes career guidance, CV advice, interview preparation or information about the local job market, that is part of the training and is not an undertaking to find you work.

Where a partner centre shares local knowledge about schools that are hiring, or introduces its graduates to employers, that is the centre’s own activity in its own country. It is not a placement service that we sell as part of the course.

Eslbase, run by the same partnership, separately introduces some teachers to schools and other employers and is paid a commission by the employer when a teacher is hired. Taking a School of TEFL course is not a condition of any such introduction and does not give you priority in one. We never charge a teacher a fee for finding them work, or for trying to.

We cannot guarantee that qualifying leads to an offer, that an offer leads to a visa, or that any position meets your expectations. Confirming that you are eligible to work in the country concerned remains your responsibility.

Adding your own content

Anything you submit must be accurate and lawful, must not be offensive or threatening, and must not infringe anyone else’s rights. It must be your own work, or something you have the right to submit. We may remove anything that breaches these terms or infringes copyright.

Copyright

Copyright, trade marks and other intellectual property rights in School of TEFL and its content, including the website design, text, graphics and all software and source code connected with it, belong to us, are licensed to us, or are used by us as the law permits.

You may access, view and print content from School of TEFL for your own personal, non-commercial use. Except as set out below, or as otherwise permitted by law, none of the content may be copied, republished, redistributed or used to train machine learning or artificial intelligence systems without our written permission. This includes course materials, which are licensed to the person who bought the course.

Nothing in these terms restricts your rights under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, including fair dealing for quotation, criticism, review, reporting current events, or non-commercial research and private study.

You are welcome to quote short extracts, provided you credit School of TEFL and link to the page quoted. To request permission for anything more, or to report a use you believe infringes our rights, email hello@schooloftefl.org.

What we are responsible for, and what we are not

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for any breach of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 that cannot lawfully be excluded, or for anything else the law does not allow us to exclude. Everything below is subject to that.

The free content on this website is provided as it stands, without warranty of any kind, whether express or implied. This does not apply to courses or other services you pay for, which are covered by the Enrolment Agreement and by your statutory rights.

School of TEFL may contain views and opinions that are those of the authors, and that do not necessarily reflect the position of any other author, agency, organisation, employer or company.

We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted or free of errors, that defects will be corrected, or that the site and its servers are free of viruses. We are not responsible for losses caused by delays or failures at our service providers, or where access to the site is blocked or restricted in a particular country.

So far as the law allows, we are not liable for loss or damage of any kind, whether direct, indirect or consequential, arising from your use of School of TEFL or your reliance on its content. This includes travel and relocation costs, visa, permit and application fees, wasted expenditure, loss of earnings, loss of business, opportunity, data or profits, and costs incurred as a result of any decision to move to, remain in or leave any country.

Where you have bought a course or other service from us, our total liability in connection with it is limited to the amount you paid, and the Enrolment Agreement applies.

If you are a consumer, none of this affects your statutory rights.

Changes to the site and to these terms

We may change or remove the site, or any part of it, at any time and without notice.

We may also change these terms. Where we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. Changes apply from the date they are published and do not apply retrospectively to a course you have already booked. If a change materially affects a course you are enrolled on, we will tell you directly.

Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use and protect your personal information.

Links to other websites

School of TEFL includes links to sites run by others. A link is not an endorsement, and we are not responsible for the content or availability of a linked site.

Severance

If a court of competent jurisdiction finds any part of these terms invalid, illegal or unenforceable, that part is severed and the remainder continues in full force.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

If you are a consumer resident outside England and Wales, nothing here removes the protection of any mandatory law in your own country, or any right you have to bring proceedings in the courts there.

We make no claim that this site may lawfully be accessed from every country. If you access School of TEFL from outside the United Kingdom, complying with your own local law is your responsibility.
